Survey and Analysis of Sports Injuries and Treatment Patterns of Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics Athletes

Abstract
In an effort to obtain medical information in athletes health and to prevent sports injuries for enhancing athletes performance, injuries of rhythmic gymnastics athletes were surveyed and analyzed for 86 rhythmic gymnastics athletes all over the
country
using the questionnaire.
The followings are the results of the analysis dealing with the propensity of injury, subsequent injury management and attitudes toward their own injuries.
1. It was shown that 84 respondents(97.7%) except two persons with one injury among 86 respondents had suffered from several injuries, and than the total number of injuries accounted for 487 times and they had suffered from recurring injuries
5.66
times
per respondent and injured person.
2. The frequency of injuries during rhythmic gymnastics activity by the region of the body was shown to be 198 times in the lower limbs and 104 times in the upper limbs. It can be seen that rate of injuries was higher in the lower limbs than that
in the
upper limbs. It was found that occurring regions of athletic injuries were the spinal region(88.4%) ankle(67.4%), foot (62.8%), facies (57.0%), hand(47.7%), coxa (45.3%) and knee joint(40.7%).
3. In was shown than the cause for the occurrence of injuries was 93.3%for endogenous case and 7.8% exogenous case; the reason for the occurrence of injuries were shown to be taking a false step (61.6%) bodily collision and falling down(36.0%)
and
unreasonable attempt at infeasible motions(31.4%) in that order.
4. To refer to the type of athletic injuries, it was shown that the frequency of their occurrences was (62.8%) for the injuries of muscles and tendons, and (37.2%) for joint injury as well as (55.8%) for contuse, (48.8%) for sprain and (34.9%)
for
fractures.
5. It was shown that the treatment of injuries was visiting the physical treatment room immediately after injuries (37.2%), leading a life while enduring pain from injuries (27.9%), and receiving the emergency treatment from athletes themselves,
directors, coaches and team massagers(23.3%) in that order.
6. the curative method mainly used by rhythmic gymnastics athletes at a time of injuries was shown to be the use of applying temporary anesthetic adhesive or coolspray(62.8%), the application of ointment to injuries(47.7%), the application of
cold
pack
therapy and taping or acupuncture or moxibustion therapies(46.5%) in that order.
7. It was found that 69.8% of rhythmic gymnastics athletes were considering the preventive measured for not getting injuries at a time of usual exercise, and the high frequency of the preventive measures to be considered was (45.3%) in case they
always
take care not to get injured by remembering the weak regions of the body.
